Governor Ted Strickland visited Elyria Schools on Monday, July 20, to discuss the Education Reform Plan that was signed into law last week.

The Governor praised Elyria Schools for being "ahead of the curve" with all-day kindergarten and congratulated the school district and community for building a new high school to replace the century-old Elyria High School.

The Governor outlined the components of his education plan: Modernizing Ohio Classrooms and Curriculum; Expanding Learning Opportunities for all Students; Strenthening the Teaching Profession; Revising Assessments to Better Measure Ohio students Against the World; Increasing School District Accountability and Transparency; and Establishing a constitutional funding system.

The Governor spoke candidly with the 60 Elyria educators in the audience and answered questions on school funding, teacher training, and testing standards.
