June 15, 2010 -- Ely Elementary is the first of Elyria’s schools to pilot Enviroware biodegradable lunch trays, made by Dispoz-o Products of South Carolina. The trays will find their way into Elyria’s middle and high schools in 2010-2011.
The trays are more durable, lighter and easier to handle than previous trays the district provided. While the new Enviroware multi-divider trays may look similar to foam trays used in the past, they’re different when it comes to “green” technology.
The new trays are made from earth-friendly materials – they biodegrade by the time a kindergartner graduates high school. The old, foam-style trays took hundreds, even thousands, of years to decompose in landfills.
