June 25, 2010 -- Elyria City School District announces new administrative appointments effective August 1, 2010.

Brett Heighberger, currently Associate Principal, Elyria High School, will assume the position of Principal, Northwood Middle School. Brett replaces Jomill Wiley, who accepted a position outside of the district.

Since 2004, Brett has been a key member of the administrative team of Elyria High. He has been instrumental in developing curriculum and discipline procedures, coordinating Ohio Graduation Testing (OGT) and analyzing the data, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of Elyria High School. Brett is a lifelong Pioneer. He began his Elyria Schools career as a kindergarten student at Windsor Elementary, transferring to Northwood for junior high school, and ultimately graduating from Elyria High School in 1990. His experience as Associate Principal at Elyria High School will make him an excellent leader for Northwood.

Jim Wall, currently Assistant Principal, Elyria High School, will assume the position of Associate Principal, Elyria High School. Jim will assist Principal Darren Conley with the day-to-day operations of Elyria High, supervise security and assume responsibilities for the OGT.

Jim began his career at Elyria Schools in 1993 and became an Assistant Principal at Elyria High School in 2003. Jim has been instrumental in establishing intervention programs for struggling students, particularly those in need of graduation credits and OGT preparation. Under Jim’s leadership, graduation and attendance rates have steadily climbed. Jim is a proven leader and brings the same enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to the Associate Principal position as he has demonstrated as Assistant Principal.

Both gentlemen bring a wealth of experience to their respective positions and are committed to student achievement and to the success of Elyria Schools. Their leadership styles will fit well with the needs of both schools.
