Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome your son/daughter to my
Transitions I class and to briefly explain some of the learning experiences
and requirements of the course.

We will be studying units that stress the importance of personal
responsibility and decision making skills for young adults. Specific units
to be studied include: Personal Development (learning about yourself, improving self-esteem, values, problem solving, good judgment, personal grooming,); Resource Management (money and time management, consumerism); Home Management (study of fabrics, color, laundry, basic sewing skills); Life Planning (developing a strong work ethic, goal setting, lifestyle, family values, relationships). There will also be a service learning project required of all Family and Consumer Science students which will be discussed in February. In short, this class includes lessons that will help prepare young adults to PLAN for SUCCESS.

Students are responsible for purchasing their sewing project,
approximately $7.50 - $10.00.

Students will be given an obligation slip to bring home with the total cost of the project. All money for sewing projects should be turned in to the Elyria High School Treasurer in the main office. Please make checks payable to Elyria High School. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Mrs. Delia Costin
Family and Consumer Science Dept.
