School Safety

Student and school safety is the number one priority of Elyria Schools.

The district works with the Ohio Schools Council (OSC) and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) to keep its safety practices and procedures current.

In emergency situations, the district follows the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation. The SRP is a common language to help students and staff respond when an incident occurs at school.  We have also shared this language with the local police and fire authorities so they clearly understand the responses and actions our students and staff take in emergency situations.

Elyria City School District has enjoyed a long history of working closely with the Elyria Police Department, Lorain County Sheriff's Office, Elyria Fire Department and Elyria Township Fire Department.

The district employs School Resource Officers who work at the campuses and at Elyria High School.

Elyria Schools is also a member of the SaferSchools Ohio network.

The SAFEROH tip line at 844-SAFEROH (844-723-3764) lets students, staff, parents or community members anonymously report anything that is suspicious or endangering to self or others.

The SRP Protocol (The district uses the term "Lockout" in place of "Secure," as Lockout was the term used by the I Love U Guys Foundation for many years before the organization switched to the term Secure. Lockout/Secure is a modified lockdown response.
