Howdy, Pioneers...Welcome back to school!

The 2023-2024 school year begins August 21.

Special Note: K-8 students will return on a staggered schedule alphabetically by last name, beginning Aug. 21 (read on for details.)

All Elyria High School students will start school on Aug. 21.

All preschool students will start school on Aug. 28. 

Staggered Return: Kindergarten through Grade 8 ONLY

A staggered return gives students and staff time together in smaller groups to get to know one another and it provides students with a richer experience while learning their new schedules and the routines and expectations of school.

  • K-8 students whose last names begin with A through G will attend school on Mon., Aug. 21.
  • K-8 students whose last names begin with H through O will attend school on Tues., Aug. 22.
  • K-8 students whose last names begin with P through Z will attend school on Wed., Aug. 23.
All K-8 students will attend school for their first day together on Thursday, Aug. 24.

School Start and End Times

  • High School, grade 9-12: Doors open at 7:35 a.m., Classes begin at 7:50 a.m., Classes end at 2:39 p.m.
  • Middle School, grades 5-8: Doors open at 7:20 a.m., Classes begin at 7:30 a.m., Classes end at 2:15 p.m.
  • Elementary School, grade K-4: Doors open at 8:55 a.m., Classes begin at 9:10 a.m., Classes end at 3:10 p.m.
  • EECV Preschool: AM Classes begin at 9:10 and end at 11:40 a.m.; PM Classes begin at 12:40 p.m. and end at 3:10 p.m.
  • Hamilton Preschool: M-Th, full day: Classes begin at 9:10 a.m. and end at 2:10 p.m.

Quick Tips

School Clothing

The Student Code of Conduct (page 15) provides full guidance on school clothing expectations but please make note of these important takeaways:  

  • Hoods may not be worn up and over the head during the school day. 
  • Clothing may not present a health or safety hazard or disrupt the educational environment.
  • Pants must be sized to fit and be in good repair.
  • Crop tops may not be worn.
  • Footwear must be school appropriate, slippers and slipper socks are not permitted.
  • Blankets may not be worn in school.

Cell phones

  • Cell phones must be turned off and put away during the school day unless they are being used as part of a teacher-directed lesson.
