Celebrating a Triple Crown Champion: Mateo Medina

Triple Crown Champion Gets His Ring
Elyria City School District, Elyria High School and the Elyria Pioneer Club are proud to announce a special dedication ceremony to honor Mateo Medina, an extraordinary athlete who has achieved remarkable feats in the sport of track and field. Medina will be presented with his state championship ring at the Elyria High School basketball game on December 17, 2024, at 6:45 p.m.

Medina’s track and field accomplishments are nothing short of exceptional. He earned the 2024 Ohio State Champion titles in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, becoming a Triple Crown Winner and one of the most accomplished athletes in the state of Ohio. His historic achievement also helped lead Elyria High School’s track team to the State Team Championship. Additionally, Medina earned the title of National Runner-Up in the 400m at the national level, further exemplifying his reputation as one of the top sprinters in the country.

Though Mateo is now a college student pursuing his academic and athletic dreams, he has remained committed to his roots and continues to inspire both his community and future generations of athletes. His dedication, perseverance and sportsmanship have made him a role model for many.

The championship ring dedication ceremony will take place at Elyria High School in the main gymnasium before the start of the Elyria High School Varsity boys’ basketball game on December 17, 2024.

The public is invited to attend and celebrate Mateo's incredible achievements with Elyria High School and the community. The ring ceremony will take place at 6:45 p.m. and tip off will be at 7 p.m. (Game ticket is required for entry into the gymnasium.)

“We are thrilled to honor Mateo for his outstanding accomplishments,” said Elyria High School Athletic Director, Heather Beck. “Mateo has set an incredible example of hard work and perseverance, and we are excited to see him receive this well-deserved recognition.”
