Elyria City School District is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Courtney Griffiths as the new Associate Superintendent of Academic Services, effective August 1. Courtney will be stepping into this role following the departure of Natalie Matthews, ensuring a smooth transition and continued leadership in advancing academic initiatives throughout the district.
Courtney, a dedicated educator and experienced leader, brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to student success.
She has been a valued staff member of Elyria Schools for the past seven years, beginning her tenure in the district as an Assistant Principal at Elyria High School where she managed day-to-day school operations and worked closely with students and families every day. For the past four years, Courtney has served as Associate Principal, overseeing the master academic schedule and leading academic programs that have helped shape the school’s instructional direction and student achievement.
Before joining Elyria High School, Courtney was a teacher and later an administrator at the Lorain County Joint Vocational School. In that role, she led efforts to build partnerships with surrounding school districts and community organizations to enhance learning opportunities and real-world experiences for students. She also brings expertise in special education, further demonstrating her comprehensive understanding of diverse student needs.
Courtney holds a doctorate in education, and her multifaceted career in teaching and leadership positions makes her an outstanding choice for this district-wide role.
Superintendent Ann Schloss said, “As a Principal, Courtney has demonstrated exceptional leadership and depth of knowledge, and a strategic approach to problem-solving. She brings enthusiasm and energy to every conversation, and nurtures collaboration among teams. She’s tackled difficult issues with wisdom and heart, and I know she will thrive in this role.”
Courtney expressed her appreciation for the district and the community.
“When I came to Elyria High School seven years ago, I could never have imagined the level of personal and professional growth that I have experienced alongside an incredible team of teachers, administrators and staff,” she said. “The academic and extracurricular opportunities and support available for our students, coupled with the dedication of our teachers and administrators, make Elyria High School a phenomenal place to be and I am very grateful for my time there.
“In my current role, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with teachers and administrators across the district on a variety of committees and initiatives that have deepened my understanding of our district’s priorities and the challenges facing our staff, students and families,” she said. “I’m honored to step into the role of Associate Superintendent and look forward to continuing to support the important work that is happening across our district.”
Courtney was joined at this evening’s board meeting by her husband Jeremy, and two sons, Joey and Sam.
Congratulations, Courtney! We look forward to your leadership and the positive impact you will continue to have in our school district and community.
