The students and staff of Westwood Middle and Westwood Elementary schools welcomed Deputy Jeremy Lipscomb as the new campus School Resource Officer.

Deputy Lipscomb comes to Elyria Schools from the Lorain County Sheriff's Office.

The district has an existing partnership with the Sheriff's Office through the D.A.R.E. program, as well, which provides lessons for fifth grade students on resisting peer pressure and drugs.

Deputy Lipscomb said he's excited to join Westwood Campus and the Elyria Schools community.

Elyria Schools also partners with the Elyria Police Department to employ school resource officers at Elyria High School and at Eastern Heights Middle and Northwood Middle schools.

School resource officers are sworn law-enforcement officers in the schools. Their role is to assist in maintaining a safe, secure environment but they also build relationships with students, families and staff.

We are proud to partner with the Lorain County Sheriff's Office and the Elyria Police Department in the SRO program.

Welcome aboard, Deputy Lipscomb!
