Coach Erik Burnett Named "State Coach of the Year" in Boys Wrestling
Look no further than Elyria High School to find Ohio’s top coach of the year in boys wrestling: Erik Burnett!
Burnett learned the exciting news in a letter today from Doug Ute, Executive Director of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).
“On behalf of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, I would like to congratulate you on being selected as a 2019-2020 Coach of the Year in the sport of boys wrestling announced by the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Associations,” the letter starts out.
Ute continues by citing Burnett’s coaching performance in 2019-2020 as key in receiving this respected distinction, as well as his commitment to the community, the school district and his overall coaching philosophy.
A head coach for 25 years, Burnett is no stranger to winning whether through his own coaching achievements or through the successes of his athletes. His resume speaks to remarkable accomplishments including coaching 91 State Qualifiers, 45 State Placers, 11 State Finalists and 12 State Champions. He holds numerous state tournament distinctions and conference championships, with national title winners, too, and holds copious “Coach of the Year” titles of his own at the regional and state level.
