How has it come to be October already? Just like that, we're wrapping up the first quarter.
It was just last month that we were celebrating Elyria’s favorite end-of-summer fair--the Apple Festival! For many years the district has supported the Elyria Apple Festival's recognition of student artists in the annual Apple Art Contest during the festival. The district's art teachers are instrumental in bringing the competition to life each year. Children are eligible to participate in the contest from third grade on.
Our art teachers have the very difficult task of selecting some of the most artistic pieces to move on in the process for formal deliberation, which is headed up by the district's Art Department Chair, Mel Rainey, and by locals artists from outside the district. From that process, the Apple Art winners are named in the categories of Most Creative, Best Use of Color and Best Apple Message, and one all-around winner earns the title of Best of Show.
On September 17 at the festival, we recognized and celebrated 28 artists as this year's winners in the Apple Art Awards Ceremony. The winning artwork is currently on display at the Elyria Schools Board of Education Office, 42350 Adelbert St., now through the end of October. Congratulations to all of our Apple Art Winners, and those who earned an Honorable Mention. Well done!
The arrival of fall signals some of the most eventful months of the year.
School principals do a great job of sharing out important news and calendar events in their monthly newsletters, which are delivered through email. If you've missed any of these messages, take heart: All of the newsletters are archived by school name right here on the district's website.
Please make sure you're keeping up with the calendar events in the school newsletters and on the district's website so you don't miss any of the fantastic programming now through the holidays. You'll definitely want to bookmark the Performing Arts Center Calendar of Events to stay in the know on all the wonderful holiday performances coming soon.
Until next time,
Ann Schloss
Superintendent
